Frollo: Continuation of the Key to the Red Door by ElenaTria Frollo: Continuation of the Key to the Red Door by ElenaTria
This artwork was made for :iconcailindubh: , a good friend, a generous person, a passionate Frollophile.
She helped me with my collection of HoND stuff athough she barely knew me and there was nothing in it for her.
Now I'm returning her the favour by sending her this pic to hang on her wall. *is VERY proud* ^^
For all you fanatic Frollophiles out there, those who haven't read the book yet, now is the time and here is the chapter. ;) [link]

Bonjour! You know I Favorited your drawing awhile back and it is amazing, but I have a question what did materials did you use? :) I'm freaking obsessed with this story, book, Disney, musical anything of the Hunchback. Claude Frollo is my all time favorite character. Screw Vampires and Werewolves, give me a crazy creepy priest!XD I'm currently reading the book ( I have the Barnes and Noble Classics Version). A lot of words I don't understand, I guess the translation in it isn't the clearest but I cant put it down. The first half of the book and the "Bird's eye of Paris" is pretty boring so I just skipped some of it. Hopefully after fishing the whole thing I'll go back and reread the book after I read Les Mis. :) What'd you think of the book? Your drawing is amazing like I said , I love the whole uncomfortable situation going on. Frollo is clearly lost in his lust and longs for touch of the flesh and Esmeralda is trying to get away. Poor girl! The colors are beautiful and brings out the emotion in the picture! :) Great Job! Keep it up! Sorry if this is long!

Hhahaha bonjour! :D
I use acrylics, most of them watered down.
Frollo roooooooooooocks! :headbang:
Hahhah who CARES about vampires and werewolves??! Medieval catholic priests are the SHIT! (sorries, couldn't find a more appropriate word.. :XD: )
Awww don't skip parts! I know a BIG chunk of HoND is like.. totally boring but you'll learn to love it. I'm not saying it's omg essential to the story but it's part of what Hugo wanted you to read.
I want to read Les Mis too, just to keep my spirits high...
The book is just gorgeous. Especially Frollo's relationship with his brother, his student and his protégé. All of those parts are either deeply touching or hilarious. I also love Jehan's character and Gringoire's humour. There's also Esmeralda's back story but I wouldn't want to spoil it for you. :)
Thanks for liking my drawing! :D Yeah Poor Frollo, he just.. doesn't know how to touch a woman, how to make his advances to her, does he! :XD:
No worries, thanks a lot for taking the time to comment!
And if you're really into book Frollo (or any other kind of Frollo for that matter) and would like to meet awesome people who live and breathe for him, check out this site! :D claudefrollo.com/

Oh wow its very good! Yea, I will go back to the other chapters after I get through the rest , it very good! I have Les Mis but haven't read it yet (heard its the longest Novel written, my family don't think I can Read it!) and Yes, I love Frollo's relationship with the other characters. Don't worry I know some of her back story so :)

That chapter is mind-blowing and so well written. If you like Frollo you go "Bummer! He didn't score" and if you don't you go "What a PERV, poor Esmeralda get out!!". Hugo was a genius. :D

I haven't reached the end of the book yet, but I know she dies. I like Frollo a lot more in the book, I can relate to him more. I love gypsies and I love Esmeralda so I wanted her to go with him so she could live. Hugo totally was a genius!

Yeah, the book has a tragic ending in general.. Do let me know what you think when you finish it. :D
Of course you like him more in the book, he's more complicated, he's more human, Hugo explains his behaviour and he has a good side too. Sometimes Frollo is even hilarious with Gringoire and Jehan. :giggle:
Awwww I so wish Esmeralda didn't have a death wish in the end! She could at least... well.. trick him, stay with him for a while, then gtfo. Or maybe she could even grow to like him, who knows!

Exactly! The movie made him to be a typical lusty, hypocritical priest type. The book gives him a lot of depth and dimension. He is a very interesting character.

Well it's one freaky chapter, I tell you, if you're not a Fresme fan. Yeap, stalkers and rapists are nobody's cup of tea, even if they're dressed in sexy priest garments. :P
Hahhaha thanks! The friend who gave me the commission asked for a non-Dawkins Frollo (Frollo purists ftw! :winner: ) but it turns out I couldn't get rid of my Dawkins fixation. ;P

Wow, this scene is so ... so tragic and nice both in one - tragic because of the motive, and nice because I like your style so much! That's a very good illustration! Interesting Frollo! Since I've seen the Disney-Film I was a Fan of Frollo, and since I've read the book, I'm balancing between "wow, I like this guy" and "huh, so bad" ;)

Yes I think the same, I tried to draw it beautifully but at the same there's just... so much desperation in this scene! Coming from both characters. It's so deep it's almost disturbing.
Thanks for liking my style! :aww:
Hahhahah same here, I became a Frollo fan when I saw the Disney movie back in 1997! :D
Then I read the book and yes, book Frollo has a bit of kindness in him whereas Disney Frollo is pure evil. :XD: You can't help loving/hating him.

Oh, you're so right! :D Frollo is awesome ... the pure evil in Disney is ... inspiring ;) oddly enough that I was a bit disappointed of his book-kindniss ... yeah, I'm strange ... :P

I took notice of your artwork when I did some art reseach on Lucius/Severus - and your work is absolutely cool! This is why I put you to my dev.watch ... but your work on Frollo is even better, I think! Absolutely great! :)

Is there some Frollo/Esmeralda or Hunchback-things beeing planned?

Well.. don't listen to those Frollo purists ranting about how Disney slaughtered Frollo by making him one dimensional and pure eeeeeeeeevil. :P I lust after a good ol' villain like any other fangirl. :giggle: Good guys are meant for marriage, bad guys are meant for fantasies. ;)
Awwwwwwww you'd found my Lucius/Severus art?? That's so nice of you! And thanks for the watch too!
Aw, well my Frollo work, or some of it, is more *recent* that's why it looks better. :XD: I draw more Frollo lately because I'm involved in all these Frollo communities and groups here on dA and elsewhere, Frollophile friends motivate me when they can. :)
As for Frollo/Esmeralda.. there's this contest in the Fresme group but I won't take part, I'm only giving away prizes [link]
But a friend asked for a Fresme picture based on her fic, so I might be doing that soon... :) Thanks for asking!

So, I hope we can see more about your frollophile art soon! I'm always amazed! :)

Indeed, although the scene in the end when Claude gives Esmeralda a last chance to survive and then leaves her with Gudule(Book 11, The Little Shoe) is awesome too^^
It really sounds weird, but she might be right. I actually tried looking for pictures online and only found a few.

He's lived in New York most of his life, so when I graduated, we both moved here. :)

I hated where I was living...

Guess what? I'm totally obsessed with Darth Maul, now! X3 I'm also really into Star Wars. I want to cosplay Maul if I ever go to a convention again.

I draw a lot, but right now I'm working on a Darth Maul fanfiction. Also, my husband and I have been collecting Darth Maul figurines and plushies.

Wow, when exactly did you get obsessed with Maul? :D
Awwwwww cosplay??? If you do please link me to your pics!!! :eager:
Guess what, my bf is going to cosplay as him as well!!! In the con that's coming up this April there's this cosplay contest, I seriously hope he wins because he's put a lot of time and struggle on his suit! And that double lightsaber is too damn expensive, whoaaaaaaaa...
NY must be filled with conventions! :D
Wow you write about Maul?? That's totally incredible! I've never even managed to draw him, let alone write about him... ^^;
YOU GUYS ARE COLLECTING DARTH MAUL FIGURINES GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!! :woohoo:
I have a little collection too, a wonderful 12 inch poseable figure (it looks EXACTLY like him, clothes and all), a plastic bust, a statue, a couple of small figurines and another one where he's half naked.
Do post a pic of your Darth Maul collectibles pleeeeeease! :eager:

I got obsessed with him about 3 weeks ago, almost a month.

How long does it take for your bf to put on the Darth Maul makeup? If he puts a lot of effort into the cosplay, he definitely deserves to win. :)

It's up to my husband if we post pictures or not. I'm too lazy to take pics sometimes. XD I had posted some of me holding the figurine on facebook.

I want to get this statue of Darth Maul - [link]

Yeah, I'm writing about him. I'm re-writing the first chapter, because the original first chapter sucked, and I was rushed.

I also love Savage Opress (Darth Maul's brother). He's my second favorite character in all of Star Wars. Here's how he looks - [link]

The other guy here is ALSO Maul's brother, Feral (He's the one on the right) - [link]

Maul basically has 2 brothers.

Actually we haven't tried the Darth Maul make up yet... :hmm: We're gonna try it by the end of the month, it's the carnival, nice chance to practice. I hope it won't take us more than 2 hours..
I do hope he wins, he even bought the devilish contact lenses, they're scaryyyyyyy! :omg:
OMG I want that statue too.. :worry: We have it here in some shop in Athens but it's way too expensive, sigh...
Ah yes, Savage Opress, is he any good? From the moment I saw him I wondered.. if they want a badass Zabrak sith with horns and tattoos on his face and a double lightsaber.. why not get Darth bloody Maul in the first place?..
Whoa whoa whoa, YET another brother??? :O What the...? Their poor mother hahahaha!!

Eleni, you really honor me with this lovely piece - thank you so much, dear. ^^ You know how fond I am of this chapter and this scene and you've brought it to beautifully vivid life. Great composition, interesting perspective, great background detail, beautiful colors, and the beam of moonlight focusing in on the two characters and their mutual struggle to be 'free' of each other, only in two very radically different ways - it's just gorgeous, and I'm thrilled to have it. You've captured the fervency of the mood here, too; his clumsy but overwhelming desperation colliding with her fear. Sensual, intense, and dark - just like the chapter.

I'm also happy that you enjoyed the creation of it, too - I really liked seeing the entire process and it's great to see you drawing the book characters again! I can't wait to get this in the mail. I've got a spot on the wall all ready for it once I get this framed. Thanks again so much! And you're very welcome about the HoND stuff...you know you've got a big package to expect soon too, full of goodies for your collection (once I put them all together). :)

Ok, so, I've said it before, I'll say it again - you know if this were me instead of Esme in the piece, the roles would be reversed, right? Poor Claude...he'd never get to that whistle in time to help himself. :D

Poor Claude...he'd never get to that whistle in time to help himself. :D - LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that's something YOU should draw, a caricature, a reversal of roles! XD
their mutual struggle to be 'free' of each other - wow, I like that! :O
his clumsy but overwhelming desperation colliding with her fear - gah, you should be an art critic! I love the analysis.
Sometimes I find it really crazy that they've cast so MANY charming actors to play the part. And let's not even mention Daniel Lavoie..
If Frollo was that appealing, would Esmeralda resist him? :hmm:
Hahhahah the process of creation, I should totally post a deviation with all the stages. =P
